After the success of last year’s event at the Chapel, we are hosting another CERAMIC MAKERS’ MARKET in celebration of the Abergavenny Food Festival with a few more names added to the mix.

A rare opportunity to meet the makers. Hand-crafted tableware by outstanding ceramic artists will be on sale upstairs at the Chapel, Market Street.

Open all weekend 15-16 September 10am-5pm

Kevin McFadden, formerly of St John and the Rochelle Canteen, will be the chef at the Farmer’s Arms when it opens later this Autumn. Until then he is cooking at the Chapel. Join us on Friday and Saturday evenings when Kevin will be cooking small supper menus reflecting the best of the season’s produce. From 7pm, no booking necessary.

CHAPEL KITCHEN NOW OPENS AT 9AM FOR BREAKFASTS.

We have closed for our annual break.

Both our venues will re-open on Thursday 4th January 2018

Our top picks are…

STOCKING FILLERS

Stabilo Woody Pencils £1.41 Their luxurious buttery texture and vibrancy of colour make these firm favourites for all ages. Draw on any smooth surface and blend with water to create a painterly effect.

Koh-i-Noor 4 Tier Watercolour Set  At £6.65 this is an all-rounder watercolour set that can travel, takes up barely any room and is very easy to use. With 24 beautiful colours, you can’t go wrong.

FIMO Soft Modelling Clay £2.38 Let your child get creative with this brightly coloured clay. Once baked and cooled, their creations can be cut, sawn, glued, varnished and painted

Marabu Porcelain Painter Pens £3.84 Draw these directly on to ceramics or glass in lots of bright, opaque colours and decorate your own dishwasher-friendly crockery without baking. Tried and tested with a huge thumbs up!

FOR THE STORY LOVERS

‘The Happy Prince’ by Oscar Wilde, illustrated by Maisie Paradise Shearring £10.95. First published in 1888, Wilde’s beautiful and romantic winter’s tale comes to life with Shearring’s delightful drawings.

‘The Yellow Fairy Book’ edited by Andrew Lang £8.99. 48 Classic fairy tales with hundreds of woodcuts and illustrations, there is so much to take from this magical tome. Not only are Lang’s Coloured Fairy Books generally considered to be the best English versions of standard stories, his collections are the richest and widest in range.

FOR THE SERIOUS CREATIVE

The Art Shop Card Printing Kit £52.95. All you need to make your own hand-printed cards. Carve your own design with the lino-cutting tool set and print with high-quality black and gold or silver ink on beautiful Fabriano Mediovalis folded cards with matching envelopes. In an archival box, this makes a very special gift.

We believe jewellery should be extraordinarily made and insouciantly compliment its wearer. Our makers are masters of their materials with a spirited spin. Choose a hand-made piece to wear from jewellers who play with acrylic, porcelain and precious metals.

Mizuki Takahashi’s enamel jewellery are etched in black scraffito and hung on long pendants to create an elegant understatement.

Marlene McKibbin’s bangles and earrings are made from clear acrylic and infused with colour that catch light and reflect it on its wearer.

Uncomplicated and satisfying, Syann van Niftrik’s organic shapes in beaten silver draw freely from the environment in an intuitive and elemental way.
