‘Absent Presence‘ – The domestic interior of The Art Shop is filled with the images of solitary cacti, empty children’s dresses and small paintings of empty tablet packets… This is very much an exhibition about a woman’s connection to her world. PHILIPPA ROBBINS presents paintings, paper-scrolls, drawings and lazer cuts which might lead the viewer to look for the presence in what remains. Visit our exhibition page for more information. Runs until Saturday 1st June.

Currently showing at The Art Shop…
Our newly opened exhibition ‘Carapace’ at The Art Shop is a fascinating insight into the imagination of artist, Philippa Robbins. Populated with corvids, “the dark stars of the bird world,” puppets, and relics of infancy recalling the delights and fears of childhood.
Philippa’s show includes paintings, drawings, a cast of puppets with their own hand painted passport photos and small installations…. continues until 11th March.
Our late summer show is now open
‘Artist in the Garden’, our late summer show is now open.
Blooms, blossoms and garlands galore…
Highlights include… exquisite mosaics by Rah Rivers, that run parallel to her paintings of birds, angels, flowers and trees; humorous, one-of-a-kind lino block prints on vintage glass by Alexis Snell; George Rowlett’s delicious oil paintings of flowers from his garden and new collections of ceramics by James Burnett Stuart and Winchcombe Pottery to name a few…
Our ceramic collections continue at the Chapel, Market Street, just a few minutes walk.
Back in the New Year…
We are closed over the Christmas holiday for our annual break and will re-open on…

There will be a kitchen and larder and small wild garden. Upstairs, events and workshops with musicians, writers, poets, artists and performers. The Art Shop will continue to sell fine artists’ materials and upstairs hold regular exhibitions in a domestic interior.

The Winter Show: Rachel Larkins
We are so excited to have a selection of beautiful pieces from the very talented Rachel Larkins.
Her work spans an eclectic range of toys and automata to charcoal drawings and has delighted clients including the Hove Museum & Art gallery, musician PJ Harvey, foot wear design compay Jeffery West of London and Tait and Style of Orkney.
‘I began making collectors toys about fifteen years ago, from a studio at Artsway (in the New Forest) shortly after graduating in Textile Art from Winchester. I exhibit regularly and my work is held by private collections in this country and abroad. Alongside working at The Arts University at Bournemouth, I make automata to public and private commission. I am currently studying for a Masters in Sequential Design at the University of Brighton.’

Philippa Robbins – Magical Thinking
Our new exhibition ‘Magical Thinking‘ is now open and runs until 26th October.
It is such a pleasure to be showing this first solo show by Philippa Robbins, a new, emerging talent. Paintings, drawings, Mexican tin nichos, Russian dolls, maquettes… this really is a whole cast of supporting works.
Marceline (see image left) is a beautiful Devon Rex kitten, just a few months old, belonging to Philippa’s daughter. She became something of a celebrity at the private view, quietly sitting upstairs away from the bussle but happily welcoming visitors, so affectionate.

I am completely self contained, ready for travel… and I can even continue working in bed its so portable!’
